What is his name? The problem is that we could find, say 10 deaths for 'John Smith' in the time you gave. How would you know which one was yours? At least if you give us his name and approximate area, we can see how many come up! Sam x

Do you know his name and who his parents were? Are you looking for a John Smith or an Augustus Twemlow? Ancestry and other sites have databases of recent dates, so it may be relatively easy to locate possibles for the deaths. If the birth was after about 1911, you could then check the birth indexes to cross reference with mother's maiden name.

Brenda, how did you know I was looking for Augustus Twemlow? So you know roughly what area he lived in? Electoral rolls should show him. You could then look for the death and see how old he was and then off you go backwards.

Reply from Margaret: Sorry for not putting his name in, but I didn't know if Genes would've classed the request as a trying to find if I named him, and deleted the message from the tips board. Anyway here goes, this is all I have: Name: Eric Edwards Parents: Joseph Edwards who was born 13.06.1883 Sarah Ellen Allsopp who was born c 1884 These married 26.12.1908 There is a possibility that Eric was born in the Sheffield area but that's not definite. I do know he was living at Churchtown, Cheltenham, Gloucs when he died and I'm guessing when I say 20 years ago it could be a little before that maybe even 17 years if you go the other way. He served in the forces when he was younger but then again I don't know which one. I've heard on the family grapevine that he was due to marry at one time but was jilted at the alter, not that that would help you at all. He did have 3 other brothers, Joseph Daniel 1910, Albert ? and Harold c1912 so going on their DOB maybe he would've been born between 1908 and say 1915 Is this any good to you? Sam x

I looked on Ancestry the same as Jim and I would say the Eric Edwards you are looking for was born 07.01.1916 and died Feb 1995 the other one is 6 years later born 06.09.1922 and died June 1989. Good Luck Irene
