I emailed the national-army-museum for an identification of what war and regiment my photo is for they said it was the 1914-1918 war 7th 8th or 9th Territorial Battalion , The Duke of Cambridge's own (Middlesex regiment) but and I know this sounds silly as they should know, I am sure its the second war about 1944 can anybody help me identify him please |

So you think we would have a better idea than the army museum? |

Well I think the actual photo would be obviously either 1st or 2nd world war - most 1st world war chappies had moustaches, for a start. Do you know who the person in the photo is? Why do you think its the 2nd ww? nell |

Well the question is - who wrote 'missing presumed killed 1944' on the back, and where did they get their info? Do you have any other photos of this uncle, so you can compare them to see if it IS him? I suppose you could try to get your uncle's service record, but if you don't know which reg he was in and you don't agree with the National Army Musem, its a problem. If it is WW1 and can't be your uncle, then without a name you can't check on the medal index on the Nat. Archive. But is it possible your uncle served in WW1 and this is a photo of him THEN, but later served in WW2 which is when he was missing presumed killed? nell |
