Can anybody help? I have Charles Harris born 1850 in Long Itchington to William a labourer. By 1876 Charles is a carpenter and living in Buckinghamshire. Although the whereabouts of William are unknown, he is now a hawker. By 1881 Charles is still a carpenter, and living in Stow-On-The-Wold Glous. William is now believed to have died. 1901 Charles is still a carpenter, and living in Birmingham. The two probs I have are. 1/ Although I have Charles birth year, and place of birth I can find no evidence of his birth on Ancestry or BMD. 2/ I know neither Charles nor William left England, but I can find no trace of them on the 1861 or 1871 census. Has anybody any ideas?

So it's only when he is independent that he gives his place of birth as Long Itchington? I suppose either his parents knew better, or he was born under a different surname. Perhaps ''William Harris'' as his father doesn't really exist? So, no hot tips from me..... Merry

As I can only find Charles as an indepented I have to take Long Itchinton, or at least warwickwickshire. William is the name of his father as stated on Charles's wedding cert.

If Charles' birth isn't on FreeBMD, you would have to search through the GRO indexes for it because it probably just hasn't been transcribed by FreeBMD yet. You can search on 1837 online, but you have to buy credits for it, or go to a records office or large library and search the microfiche. Kate.

Isn't there a CD for 1851 Warwickshire census index? Why don't you try asking on the Record Office board, or find the relevant thread for a look up?
