I dont know if you can do that if you just have your tree on here. Most people have a familytree program like Family Treemaker which is simple to back up. You just bung in a cd and click save to cd.

Hi Linda If you haven't got another family tree programme, trying going to the LDS site and then you can download PAF (Personal Ancestral File) for free. Really good basic programme, until you get yourself really organised and work out which of the 'pay for' programmes is for you. you can then save you files to disc once you have backed them up. You just click on 'Import/Export Tree' on the left, and choose 'export' and you will - eventually - get what is called a 'GEDCOM' file which you can save where you like on your computer and just copy to a floppy by clicking and dragging the file. Then if your tree ever disappears from GR you can 'import' it back again! Also if you get a family tree program for your computer you can import the GEDCOM file into it to save you typing everything in again. But a word of warning - you may have to try 'export' quite a few times before it actually succeeds! And it may take a while to generate the file when it does finally work. Kate.

Linda.... I can propbably give you the step by step directives you need to save to disk....a few questions, first.....what family tree program are you using? Do you have Windows XP? Does your PC have a CD burner? You can burn to disk both the actual working tree as well as a copy in .ged format. Judy
