I spent £7.50 about 3 hours ago and am still searching Staffs 1841! I do actually own the Staffs 1841 census CD's but these have no index so it is FAR easier to use this site. I never knew about this site before, have still got rellies in other counties to look for before my 72 hours runs out! Sam x

BIG Apologise to British Origins. I have now found out how to use it and as others are saying it is great. I'm such a novice. by the time I work things out my times up, but have found quite a lot of info now. Sorry Lynda from Wales feeling a bit of a wally

Hi Richard Many thanks, I need Staffs 1841 as I am stuck in 1851, maybe if the father's appear in 1841 I will be on my way. Best wishes Amanda

I have found it useful because of lot of the fathers are missing from 1851 onwards due to death - so have at last found out who they were. Together with many of the maiden names for the women marrying into the family pre 1837 - I think its worth its money

The 1841 isn't a census that gives you a lot of information. Generally a name age and whether the person was born in the county. Occupation. Diane

Hi there Well I don't know if I am using it alright, but I went on there after reading this thread and paid the 7.50 and other than telling me about the village my ancestors lived in, the census's have told me less than roots or Ancestry. So I'd save your money if I were you Lynda

As a Newbie, I haven't come across this site before. I assume one has to pay, but what are the benefits over other sites, please? Places like Northumberland, tend to be overlooked! Thanks Anne

Thanks for that Richard. Will definately think about it. I'm doing a year on Ancestry today/tomorrow before their 20% off offer via Your Family Tree finishes on thursday. Diane

Diane It's not bad, but check that the areas that you want are covered first. I reckon that the best deal is the 72-hour subscription for £7.50 . If you can put aside a weekend to concentrate on the site, you should be able to find all you need in that time. The advantage of the 72 hour sub is that it doesn't automatically renew, unlike the monthly and annual subs. And since they only update the site once a month, you could do one of these a month for less cost than their monthly sub, and still get all their latest data! Richard

Is this a good site. I just had a look and am tempted to do a month as several of the counties could be useful.

Wiltshire, Cornwall, Staffordshire and Warwickshire have been added today, bringing their total to 18 counties covered. I just wish they'd hurry up & get London on! Enjoy...
