Edith Hilton married a Smith, Sept Qtr Oldham, Lancs. Can I find her husband's christian name , other than trawl thru all Smiths marriages on 1837? Does anyone know please? regards Sunny

You don't say WHEN? If its before 1901 you can try to find them as a married couple on the nearest census after the marriage. If its after 1901 you can look for them in the electoral roll. But the simplest way is to buy the certificate, especially if you are dealing with Smith. I bet there are tons of Edith Smiths. nell

Try looking on Lancsbmd.(Go in via UKBMD) They havent transcribed everything yet, but there's quite a lot! You get the names of bride and groom. Good luck Olde Crone

Hi there two Edith Hilton marriages per Lancs BMD Edith Hilton - John H Smith Oldham registrar Attended 1929.. Edith Hilton - Tom Smith Oldham Registrar Attended 1941 Regards Colette
