CERTIFICATES of births, deaths and marriages in Lancashire are now available to order online. From today people can log on to order and pay for copies of their records from the county’s new Certificate Service. Records of all births, deaths and marriages that have taken place in the Lancashire County Council area since 1837 are now held at the Certificate Service at Quayside Court on Preston docks. The County’s web site gives details on how to order copy certificates and now includes an on-line application form allowing users to pay by credit card. Gwyneth Sarkar, Regsistration Services Manager, said: “We hope the new service will be popular and allow internet users to order their cert ificates at whatever time suits them. “The service is being provided in conjunction with NetBanx. It is a secure site and people can use it with confidence.” The Registration Service can be accessed online by visiting www.lancashire.gov.uk and accessing Registrars through the A-Z.

Ooooh goody! Thanks for that, it doesn't seem like spending if I click my money away as opposed to writing a cheque! Rachel

I don't quite understand this - I have been ordering and paying for certs on line for some Lancashire Register Offices already - does this mean those offices won't be doing it anymore and its all been centralised? I hope not - I would much rather deal with the individual offices as the human touch has been VERY useful and cheap. Doubt if a centralised office will want to discuss the ins and outs of all my James Holdens at any length, much less do a (free) look-up for a likely one. Olde Crone

Steve, that sounds great. Just one question. Will it be as fast as GRO SOUTHPORT? It will have to go some to beat them. Still I will give it a try next week. TED.

Olde Crone - I think you're right and it has been centralised, because I have seen a few messages from them in various places about the centralisation. Kate.

O b****R! There go my freebies! Just as I was cultivating a lovely relationship with several Registrar's Assistants.... If they HAD to do this, why didnt they jump the gun and make certs over 100 years downloadable! Olde Crone
