my gt grandfather was Henry Dove would be registered in Mansfield. I have him born 1863 christened 1867. Dad has one of those pieces of paper that has snippets of info on and my granddad told him that his dad died when he was 65 - 70. I have looked on freebmd nothing and done 1925 - 1936 on 1837 but the one I thought was even though age was out isn't him. Any help appreciated. |

If you have checked those years on 1837 the only thing I would suggest is widening your search. try the 5 years before that & the 5 years after. He's got to be there somewhere. Info from family members, helpful as it is, is not always reliable Regards Sam |

Hi Dawn The trouble is when people 'think' they remember things lol! My dad was adamant that his aunt died several years AFTER his mother, but after trawling through 1837 for ages I discovered that she had died seven years BEFORE! Then he also said could I check out a cousin of his because he hadn't had a Christmas card from him for a COUPLE of years - he died 21 years ago lol! I've had a trawl through Ancestry, there are quite a few Henry Doves in the Mansfield area so if you want any other lookups done please let me know. The closest in year of death I can get is this one: Henry DOVE Death registered 2nd quarter 1908 Basford - Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire vol 7b, p124. I know it's Basford and not Mansfield, and I'm no good at geography, but they might be close enough. Mandy :) |

Basford isn't that close to Mansfield, but of course he could have died away from home? Kate. |

Don't be too sure he will definately be under Mansfield. I soent nearly 12 months looking for the death of my great grandfather. He lived in Stoke on Trent his whole life, in the same town so I couldn't understand why I couldn't find his death. It eventually came to light that he had died in the local mental hospital which just happened to fall under a different registration district, even though it was only about 5 miles away. I had looked at this death in the indexes many times but dicounted it as it wasn't Stoke on Trent! Sam x |

Thanks all of you, sorry didn't get back to you earlier running round after the children. Will get dad to ask his cousin if she knows more when he sees her next month will give them something to talk about. Thanks for the suggestions. |
