The Children's Society known as 'The Waifs and Strays' has produced a website that shows their work during 1881-1918. It has photographs, selected case files etc. The only problem is they have not released the identity of the children, by only using the first initial. But even so, some of you will find it is an interesting site to visit. www[.]hiddenlives[.]org[.]uk

This is a very good site and they are very helpful if you contact them at all. I have an ancestor on the 1901 census at one of their homes and emailed them about her. They have a lot of records for these children which I beleive are available ( not sure at what cost, if any ). Unfortunatly they were unable to findthe file on my girl, but they did try several times. The files have been moved and damaged and then there is always mis-filing !......but I did get confirmation that she was there. Esta

A little Nudge re Gwens thread of thanks. The site impressed me. Over 22,000 of the poorest & most vulnerable children were taken into the care of the Waifs & Strays and 'The Hidden Lives Revealed' website has been awarded the Phillimore Prize for 2005 [whatever that is].

Hi me again Everyone should take a look just to see what these poor kids lives were like, without the people that did help them they would never have survived,Just think some could be OUR family that we can't find.
