Hi I have been trying to find the marriage of George Haslam and Alice Large. I know that her maiden name is Large from her daughter's birth certificate in 1882. Their first child was born around 1872 according to the census. Both George and Alice were born in Cheshire. I have been looking for a marriage GRO number to be able to order the certificate. I have found a marriage GRO for Alice Large in Northwich Cheshire, which is the given place of birth for a few of their children. It states she married in the June quarter 1873 Volume: 8a Page: 371. But when i try to view other on that page number it only gives Alice Large. I have tried seaching George Haslam and have found a marriage in the same area and year etc, but differnt page number: George Haslam June 1873, Northwich, Cheshire Volume: 8a Page: 374 I can view the other names on the page on this one but there are no Alice's. Can any one help to find the marriage so i can order the marriage certificate. Thanks a lot Karen |

You need to view the two original pages from the GRO indexes. You can do this the quick way and pay on 1837online, or you can use FreeBMD. As there are no spectacles on the results screen, go back to the search page and click Main Page at the Bottom. Then go to View Images and then fill in the verious boxes presented to you for what you want to look at. My bet is that Alice Large is entered incorrectly on FreeBMD. Her page, as you say, shows as 371, but I bet the 1 is actually a 4 on the original page with some bits very feint!! UPDATE: Doh, ignore me and go with Elaine above - I forgot about this being Cheshire! Merry |

Hi Thanks a lot Have looked on Cheshire BMD website and found marriage that you mentioned, looks good to me. I dont see the volume and page numbers that you get of ancestry and freebmd. So can you only order it from the cheshire bmd? I did look at the original both on 1837 and freebmd borth showed the same numbers as was on website. The one on the cheshire website looks good though Thanks a lot Karen |

Should be the same cost as its from the council (£7.00) and its sometimes quicker than the GRO. If you click on the ref no it brings up a form with all the details on. Regards Ellen |
