just had to post this! found in a suffolk archive newspaper, May 30th 1828 Lately married, Mr James Challis a farmer and ironmonger of Panfield, Essex, who is on the verge of 70 years, to Mary Tiffin of Bocking who has just escaped her 20th year. doesnt bare thinking about! |

Was she from Bocking or Bonking? Poor old devil didnt last long I bet! Having said that one of my ancestors did this sort of thing twice and ended up being the only one rich enough to leave a will and buy headstones for many of the rest of the family - for which I am most grateful for her sacrifice! |

And how rich are you jim. (Though I dont qualify unless your sight has gone already). Anyway, 70 is the new 50 isnt it. Do you remember when we were young grannies were 60 and they were old and bent and had grey permed hair. Thank gawd its not like that now. And Jim, you are still younger than Clint Eastwood. |

I wonder what would be revealed by the will of James Challis?? He survived a little while with his young wife - The will is on the Nat Archives index - proved 10th June 1833!! Merry |

Ooh, they had a son!!! Here he is in 1861: Revd. Nathan Challis abt 1830 Panfield, Essex, England Head Thame Oxfordshire Quite funny really, the wife of this Nathan is ten years his senior, according to the census!! - Must be trying to turn the tables on his dad!! lol Merry |
