Merry Thank you very much. Yes I think this is where my family came to live and work when they left Winchester.They are living there on the 1861 census and I wondered what had happened as possibly 6 of their children ended up in the South Metropolitan School on the 1871 census. I believe their Dad had died and Mum probably couldn't cope. Regards Linda

Is this it? Quote from The Times newspaper dated 23rd Oct 1883: ''The partnership between James Soames, James Kolle Soames and Walter Kolle Soames, all of the Thames Soapworks, Greenwich, carrying on business as soap and candle manufacturers under the style or firm of Wilkie and Soames, has been disolved by mutual consent as and from the 31st day of March, 1883. All debts due to, and by, the said firm will be received and paid by the said James Kolle Soames and Walter Kolle Soames, by whom the business will in future be carried on.'' Merry

If you google for the family history society in Greenwich - cant remember if its North Kent? I can remember some time back they had a lot of info re industry in Greenwich. I just googled and its Greenwich Industrial Society you need plus Greenwich Millenium site which has some info too.
