I think we need to understand that making a document publicly available does not mean making it easy to use or even usable. It just means that if you want to see it they have to let you - but it might mean going to Kew and looking through boxes of smelly loose-leaf paper. No guarantee it will ever be microfilmed, or transcribed, or put online at all. It might not even be in a state to be microfilmed! As it is in such a poor state, it would be a mammoth task, even for a commercial organisation such as Ancestry to take on. nell

Apparently they know where it is stored because it smells, but there is a lot of damage , and because there are no enumerators transcripts just the individual censor takers records for each separate house ,they are not all like we are used to seeing for 1871-1901 on ancestry etc. Although it will be released to the public I reckon, it could be a long while before it even goes online and we shouldn't be disappointed if our ancestors aren't on it..... (but we will be won't we!) Kim

apparently it has not even beein microfilmed or microfieched yet, and there are no enumerators schedules, there are only the individual household records, the images of household schedules we are used to seeing aren't even available, so don't hold your breath! or perhaps do because of the smell. Will it be online in 2011 or is it released and then has to be transcribed? Sue

The government debated this in parliament last year and decided that it would NOT be released early. Kath. x
