Does anyone know if census reports were done after 1901? If yes, how does one go about searching them? I am looking for info on my Grandfather, William Forrester. He died in Worksop, Notts in the 1970s. He was married to Sara(h) Haigh- but I'm not sure where, or where he was born or the years. So I'm assuming I need to start with GrandDad's death certificate and try and work backwards. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! Gail

Hello Gail The census were taken every 10 years, the 1911 census will not be available to view until January 2012 due to 100 year closure. There was also a census in 1921,with a 100 year closure. The 1931 census was destroyed during the second world war. Hope this helps to clarify things for you Angela

The next census was taken in 1911 Which we will not be available to view until either 2011 or 2012 Do you have wllm and Sarah marriage certificate as this would give hopefully exact or full age over 21 plus fathers names. Sue

Thanks Angela and Sue that helps a bit. As far as William and Sarah's marriage info, no I only have names on dates or where they were married. I tried to look it, and William's death up on 1837 site but ran out of tries. This family tree business can be expensive if you don't have exact info LOL.

Yes, very expensive but habit forming unfortunately! At least you know where he died so the death certificate would be a good start - it should give you his age at death (or maybe even date of birth) which may help you to find his birth, remembering that the informant may have been a year or two out when giving this info. Do you know how many children they had, roughly when the oldest was born as this will help narrow down the search for the marriage. Also if you are near a records office, large library or LDS family history centre youmay be able to access the GRO indexes on fiche which would save money. Good hunting PS do ask around the family, whoever organised the funeral etc may have a copy of the death certificate, or even older certificates tucked away somewhere.

Utilise everything you do know first........ what his occupation was where he died where he was born when he born approx when he died approx which of these questions can you answer? maybe all these will help find him in trade directories and electoral roles.

Hi Judith, Expensive, addictive and obsessive. Anyway I live in Canada so going to the places listed is not possible unfortunately. I must ask my Dad to ask for info the next time he call my Mum's family. I have lost toch with the rellies but he still calls home. My cousin is a member here (HELLO COUSIN ANTHONY....) and I have sent him a message but with no reply as of yet- but it's only been a week. I'm just impatient I guess. Want to know NOW.... Thanks again for the help. G.
