Val I don't know about the site but if you have downloaded Google Earth you can put the name of a town in, under Local Search. I have just tried it with Sale, Cheshire, England and I could see my street. It's brilliant on some towns but others are blurred. Lynne |

Have been told that the Pro version has 2x the resolution. Haven't tried it myself though as I only have the free version. Grand Canyon is quite specky! Also, in the big cities click on the ''buildings'' option, which makes all the skyscrapers 3-dimensional. You can get right down to street level & ''drive'' round New York! |

It is a being updated all the time as more aerial photos are added. Luckily, where I live has one of the more detailed photos so I can see my house from about 300 foot. I've also flown over the Eiffel tower and down the other side. |

ive got it as an icon permanent,so i can play when bored.........youll notice that some areas are more detailed than others-they show up as neat strips, usually major cities, but some others are quite random. Try places like Berlin and new York................if you put the navigation panel at the bottom, there a facilitythat enables you to tilt, and it looks more 3d like this.......the detail in some parts is awesome, and you feel like youre flying over the buildings. Keep the thread going and enter places youve found that are really interesting-like landmarks etc. |

Think it depends on your connection and your monitor - the friend that told me about it can get it brilliantly at work, but at home it goes a bit blurry. As I said, I haven't tried it yet as I'm not on broadband which is a pre-requisite. |

Was talking to a friend over the weekend and she told me about a site she had found. Could be interesting if you have ancestors from areas that may not have changed very much – could be quite interesting even if they have. It’s called ‘Google World Earth’ – just go to Google, put in ‘Google World Earth’ and search – it’s a downloadable satellite programme that allows you to put in any address, postcode, location and will then ‘zoom in’ right down to ground level, where you can ‘virtually’ walk through the location – so if it hasn’t changed much, you would almost see what your ancestors saw. Haven’t managed to try it yet as I’m not on broadband but will do as soon as I can. If anyone else has tried it let me know what you think. Trudy |
