This is not really going to help you, but my husband's grandfather always told his family he was an orphan. It was just a STORY! We have found him on every census with his mother (and father on earlier one) and then in 1901 he's living, with his mother, next door to the girl he married. Just a warning to check up on family rumours! We were all set to search workhouses and orphanages - they all appear on the censuses. If you find your orphan in one you may be lucky enough to find it still has records. Best way to find them is Google the name of the workhouse. Anne |
