CAN ANY HELP ME ? I ADDED A ANCESTOR TO MY FAMILY TREE WHO WAS BORN TO A FIRST WIFE NOT THE SECOND AS I THOUGHT NOW I CANNOT SEEM TO RECTIFY THE MISTAKE BECAUSE I CANNOT DELETE 'MY SELF' AND I CANNOT DELETE THE WRONG ADDITION BECAUSE I AM A DECSENDANT. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I'm not all that up on these things, but I think you have to delete the lot and start again, or try the old tree site. Good luck, Susan

Maybe you could delete all the other children of the father, delete the first wife, then rename the second wife so she takes over the first wife's identity, if you see what I mean, add the second wife in again, and then the rest of the children. But I suppose it depends how many rellies you have attached to them whether you can be bothered to do this(if you have added the wives' parents, for example, you would also have to delete them and add them back in again) Kate.

THANKS SUSAN AND KATE, I'M AFRAID SUSAN WAS RIGHT THE ONLY WAY IS TO DELETE THE WHOLE TREE AND START AGAIN! WISH I'D REALISED THAT BEFORE I STARTED DELETING NAMES WITHOUT PRINTING A HARD COPY FIRST!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WILL TEACH ME TO MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING JUST IN CASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. Otherwise there are several programs you can download free Id suggest legacy available from (www legacyfamilytree com) dont forget to . the spaces Export gedcom from gr site. Link on the left. Save it on your computer. Import into your family tree program. add or delete the people details as you need. Export amended gedcom back to gr having first saved a copy Best Wishes Sue

If you change their name to unknown, the box will remain but the facts will be correct, if you know what I mean. Otherwise you have to start again. If you have your family on PAF, if not download from LDS, you can make changes on there then reimport to GR
