I have Charles Attwood born c1792 Whitechapel in my tree. On the 1851/61/71 census he was living at Great Parndon Essex. I have not found his death yet but have just ordered the Parish Records for Great Parndon. I want to find his christening but do not know where to look. How big an area was Whitechapel in 1792 and how many churches were there? I haven't got a clue. I have google Whitechapel 1792 but not come up with what I want. Can anyone point me in the right direction. |

Im afraid it was HUGE, its one of the places in East London where so many thousands turned up around that time to find work in the devlopments going on round the Thames. You could try the East London Family History Society? If you google parishregister weebsite it will give you the churches in Whitechapel at that time and also they do have some cds which may be of interest to you? |

Hi Heather, I though it might be huge but I will have a go at what you have suggested and see what happens. Thank you Regards, Jackie |

Hi Heather, I spent a rainy Saturday afternoon searching the internet and found parishregister.com. They are in the process of preparing St Mary's Whitechapel records 1792 - 1838 for viewing on the internet. I should be able to find my Charles Attwood then. Regards, Jackie |

Oh thats great, I hoped they would be able to help. They are such nice people there too. And dont forget that if you search you can ask for ALL the entries of one surname. for the same price! When I first did a search on there I stupidly put just the one person I was looking for - so of course I got one entry for the same money as I could have had all of them! I did mail them and they kindly sent me the others of that surname in that parish. |

Thanks for that tip. Once the records are on the internet I will give it a go. Regards, Jackie |
