Would someone be so kind to do a look-up for me on Ancestry. Just a general search. Her name is Catherine Bell Sandals. Catherine Bell being her first name and surname Sandals. It came up with her name in Shropshire but I couldn't view it. I will be subscribing to Ancestry at the weekend so hopefully I'll be able to return the favour! Thanks, Carol |

Jeanette, Thanks for looking for me. My Catherine was born in 1868 in Brighton. Her surname had changed to Hastings on the 1881 census and then she dissappears off the face of the earth so not the info I was hoping for. Don't worry I'll be able to have a good search at the weekend. Thanks again, much appreciated. best wishes, Carol |

Carol, where did you come up with the catherine bell sandals name born brighton in 1868? The refernce to that name has one entry only-that already given. Ive searched for this name at her time of birth-no such person with the name catherine bell sandals-ive seen the image in 1881-wher she is with grandparents who are called sandals, and presume one of her parents has that name, but there is no evidence of a marriage between a hastings and a sandals. |

CAROL, not this one is it?: Caroline not Catherine? She would only be 13 in 1881 so not a marriage to look for but a change of father? 1871 England Census records matching your search for All Records > Census > 1871 England Census Viewing 1-4 Match Quality Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish or Township County/Island View Image Caroline Sandals abt 1868 Portslade, Sussex, England Daughter Portslade Sussex Jane Sandals abt 1845 Wife Portslade Sussex Thomas Sandals abt 1860 Mayfield, Sussex, England Visitor Portslade Sussex William Sandals abt 1837 Isfield, Sussex, England Head Portslade Sussex Dad is an ag lab. Heather, Thankyou, yes it looks like it is probably her on the 1871 census but who she is living with I don't know. Not her parents anyway. Alter, Catherine was born illegitimately in 1868, I have her birth cert. Her mother's maiden name was Mary Ann Sandals. Probably her father's name was ? Bell (not on the cert). Her mother, Mary-Ann married an Alfred Hastings in 1870. Catherine is living with her Grandparents in Lewes in 1881 but as Catherine Hastings. After this I havent yet been able to trace her. Catherine isn't with her mother or Grandparents on the 1891 or 1901, either she died or she married. I need to check further on 1837. Thankyou all very much for your help, You've been really helpful, best wishes, Carol x |

So the one in Worthing isnt her then Carol, with those dates I would look for her on familyrelatives.org if I were you as you can enter a name, area and year to bring up all matches rather than trawling 1837. |

Alter- Mary Ann Sandals married Alfred Hastings in Hastings, Sussex in 1870. I can't remember the source of info, possibly IGI or free BMD but also confirmed by the Family Bible I have been given. I have traced their family forward to present living rellies. It's just that Catherine that's bugging me. Heather- thanks I'll give the family relatives site a go as I havent been on that one before. cheers again, Carol |
