Husband's gt grandfather Charles McCarthy/Carter born and worked in London, but disappears after 1901 census. He ran a pub during WW1 in St Pancras. Husband says his grandfather William (Charles' son) remembers them living in Manchester. Found Charles' last child Mabel was born in Prestwich reg district so thought I would order her birth cert to get details of his occupation, as it might be a clue as to why he was up there. It says 'commercial traveller'!!!! By 1911 when this little girl died (heart disease) the family were at Pakenham Street, St Pancras. In 1901 Charles was a mineral water traveller. 1895 a confectioner 1894 a wharf labourer 1891 dealer at petroleum wharf If he was a commercial traveller, why would he move his family from London up to Lancashire - the address on the birth cert is 22 Droylsden Road, Newton? nell |
