What program do you use to open jpegs?

Mine are opened by Microsoft Internet Explorer.........I don't use IE as my web browser any more since I had major problems around Christmas; I changed to Netscape. But ever since I've been doing my tree and accessing census etc. with IE I am having adverts popping up after nearly every page I go to on the web. Very annoying. Had no problem with pop-ups before using IE to view census. Any suggestions for either viewing jpegs in another program, or how to get rid of the pop-ups?

I've a pop up blocker which I googled for I think. And I use Irfanview which is free and someone recommended it as you can Zoom edit and cut off the black bits before you print the census or any other picture, Just googled for it and downloaeded it easily. Kim

Hi Do you have a Microsoft Paint program? I know you can save images as JPEGS in paint so you should be able to open them using it. Wendy

Thank you for your replies. I do have a paint program, though it seems like a very old version. Maybe I should update!! I actually have a link for IrfanView on my favourites: made a bookmark from a newsletter I received, but haven't gotten around to installing it. I'm guessing that once I install that, or update Paint, if I set my default 'open with' to one of them, maybe I won't have as many problems with IE.

Any image handling program or photography program will open jpegs files. Did you perhaps get one with your printer - that's the one I use because its simpler than my husband's photo program. Anne

Thanks Anne. I'll check the manual for the printer. Margaret

Veronica, I checked the Tools tab, but can't see an option for pop-up blocker. Where would it be? Stu, I have 98 -- it would probably be the same sort of thing -- just have to decide what program I am going to use. Margaret
