hi i need advice

hi, Im tracing my hubbys tree, and his grandfather (we dont know anything about him as he died when my oh dad was 4 in 1928) is not shown on the 1861, 1871 census, he was born in 1859/60. his first marriage ive found, along with two sons, that we didnt know existed, but ive nothing from 1901 onwards has anyone got any pointers?, what has turned up is a marriage and another daughter in 1920, how can i find out if its the same person? all advice greatfully recieved Regards Marie

hi Jeanette its Peter Ormerwood dob 1859/60, and he was born in Preston Lancashire

what was his wife's name there is one in 1901 with Ann J and in 1891 Alice Joanna with son like post above me

yes Jess thats them And Alice/Ann/Albert (different names on different records) - joanna was his first wife, she died in 1917, but that is the last info i can find on the son James, they had another son Edward 1891 census he was down as Hornby then 1901 he was Ormerwood, then nothing.

Is this the 1920 marriage? Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1920 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference ORMERWOOD Peter MARCROFT Doris Oldham, St. James Oldham CE234/12/116 The only way to be sure it's the same person is to send for the marriage certificate and check the age at marriage and the fathers name. If they match the info you have chances are it's the same man.

Fiona yes thats the marriage, would i still be able to get the certificate then, even tho its only an enquiry? And Gillian i think your on to something there, thanks, i never thought of spelling it like that, ive dropped r's and e's. cheers it could be them thats why i cant find them

And thank you Jeanette, yes there the same people, its a divil ive been banging my head against the wall!! it looks like the wrong spelling 'Armerwood' are the right people they seem to match up.
