Can someone tell me why on a marriage certificate of a couple it says the father of the groom is Titus, then on the birth certificate I sent away for the groom it tells me father is Charles, I am pretty sure I sent away for the right birth certificate as it was the only one for that area and date. Sue............ |

Sue If you are certain that the birth and marriage certs are the right ones - don't worry. I've had this in my husband's tree where a father was called Solomon Hart on a birth cert and Zalig Hart on a marriage cert - his own death cert had him as Solomon Zalig Hart! Husband also had a chap who was Dennis McCarthy on his son's birth cert but by the time son got married was calling himself James Carter! I'd suggest that you try to find Charles/Titus on censuses and certs to see how he is recorded there. nell |

Charles was born about 1841 and his father would be about 1820 but I can't seem to find a birth for Titus. Titus was on Charles 's marriage certificate so he was alive in 1867, would someone please see if there is a Titus Hare 0n 1861 census born about 1820 Sue.......... How confusing Helen, why do they make it so difficult for us to find? |

Are you saying that Titus signed on the certificate? If he was just named as the father, he could have already died at any time. My grandparents certificate (1900) names the bride's father and occupation but he had been dead for nearly 25 years. |

Hate to say this but when I was registering one of my kids for some unknown reason I gave my maiden name instead of married name. Luckily it was noticed in time - but what if? |

Not sure if this helps, but my grandfather's birth cert is Bertam, his marriage cert is Ellis Bertie and his death cert Ellis Bert. Throughout his life was known as Chas ?????????? |
