Am I not very observant? Yes, most definately! Just noticed the HOT MATCHES link from the home page. I've got 5 pages of them to go through! The matches are based on Name & Year so lots are not relevant as the place of birth is miles away. To delete them, just check the 'do not show again' and save the page when you've finished...Elly |

Thanks for that tip, Elly. I had 3 pages of hot matches, almost all of them no match at all. Some of them not even on the same continent! Yesterday I scrolled through them all, clicking the ' do not show me this again' button, but I didn't know that you had to save the page after, so they're still all there. Now I have to go through the whole process again. It would have been nice to have instructions on the page for dummies like me. Margaret |

The trouble is that they are not deleted but put into 'ignored hot match list'. What is the point!! |

A few people have said that only surnames beginning with A, B or C are currently listed in the 'Hot Matches' and I think they must be right as the only relative of mine on GR who appears in my Hot Matches at all is one who shares ancestors and rellies with a 'B' surname with me; those whose shared ancestors are further down the alphabet don't appear at all. And as I have some William Browns in my tree, I have about 5 pages of so-called Hot Matches where they have one William Brown in their tree born nowhere near mine! Kate. |

These would only be hot if we could CHOOSE the matches we wish to be notified of. As the site is now so unwieldy, I would like to search certain surnames on NO BIRTHDATE and NO BIRTHPLACE, which is currently impossible. If GR could engage brain and substitute baptism for birth where birth fields are empty, and allow more than 5 pages, then hot matches might be useful. Currently, it is not, unless you are a beginner who finds a close relative. |

My hot matches were in order of 'matches' those with the most hits were first, and these were all other members of my family. Anne |

Well, just to prove it I have just been through all my 5 pages and every single one was a Brown or a Bristow, with the exception of one Atkinson. My brother turned up towards the end of the list with just 1 match - a Bristow - although he should have about 6. But the other five would have surnames that come after Brown in the alphabet. I think GR need to do a bit more work on this... Kate. |

Thanks for bring this to my attention, Yes 5 pages of rubbish, but 1 entry that has Granny, her sister and parents. Heaven knows who this chap is, but I'm anxiously awaiting a reply! My cousin was also there as a match, but with only 2 matches (beginning with M) and there should be a whole tree of matches! Brenda..... You can search just on surname, with nothing else, just put the surname in the box at the top of the page, Quick search. I use it all the time. Suex |
