Hi Does anyone have any tips how to or is anyone willing to help me break through the brick wall that I have hit in trying to discover my EGGERTON ancestors? My ggrandfather, Isaac Eggerton came from Parkhurst Prison, England on the convict ship Mandarin in 1843. He was 17 at the time. From his marriage certificate his father was James Eggerton & his mother was nee Webster (no Christian name given). Family rumour has it that he came from the Staffordshire area, but I am unsure how correct this is. I cannot afford to join a lot of paying sites, and all the freebies return a 'no results' verdict for Staffordshire & England in general. I am new at this, so would love for someone to head me in the right direction to break through this barrier. Thanks for your time & God bless you. Lyn |

You could try joining the Rootsweb mailing list for Staffordshire http(://)lists.rootsweb(.)com/index/intl/ENG/STAFFORDSHIRE(.)html (remove brackets) Ask for a 1826 birth look up and a possible marriage some time before that. With a bit of luck somebody on the list will have the relevant parish records. I thoroughly recommend these Rootsweb lists to anybody with specific queries in specific areas. There are many kind-hearted people who will do look ups in sources not obtainable online. I don't know the Staffs list, but there are some real local experts on those lists I do subscribe to. |

If all else fails the National archives hold registers of Parkhurst prison. They do searches at £15 for 15 minutes. I got the following information from their site: Series details: HO 24 : quick reference Home Office: Prison Registers and Returns Covering dates 1838-1875 Scope and content This series includes registers of Millbank, Parkhurst and Pentonville prisons Access conditions Held by The National Archives, Kew Suzanne Also found this site......I checked the calendar of prisoners and there is no Eggerton Isaac Im afraid. www(.)genealogylinks(.)net/uk/england/staffordshire/index(.)html |

Hi At the moment, this site: http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/ only goes up to 1834. However, if you can bear to wait... Plans for Digitisation of 1834-1913 Proceedings From December 1834 to April 1913 the Proceedings continued to be published under the title of The Proceedings of the Central Criminal Court. We have received funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to allow us to add all 100,000 trials to this website. The project will take three years, and should be completed by September 2008, with the first tranche of trials likely to be posted in early 2008. If you would like to be kept informed of the progress of this project, please fill in and submit the Notification form. Christine |
