If you have got your mothers birth cert it will have her mums maiden name on there or find someone with credit and look for your mums birth on 1837 and it will give maiden name next to your mums name Jeanette

Have you tried the electoral roll for her ''usual residence''?? It might turn up other family members.... Merry

Hi Try this Web Site re: State Registered Nurse records - may be of some help. http://www.rcn.org.uk/resources/historyofnursing/factsheets-tracingnurses.php I have been thru a similar experience, though it was all done by snail mail and I can't find the papers %3A-%28 to give you an address, but eventually I was able to locate a hospital where my grandmother worked - they had records that included her father's name and his last address. This was all in the early 1950's. Perhaps as a longshot you could try approaching Hospitals that were known to exist in 1937 in Uddingston area and see if they hold any records. And just to clarify : you are saying? Your mother was born in Leeds and adopted in Scotland. Your Grandmother was born in Scotland, surname CAIRNS (when abouts was Grandmother born or likely to be born, what was her full name as you know it?) Have you tried to find a death for her under the name you know? A death cert may give you information to go on with - my grandmother's death did. If is deceased, and she didn't die in England, perhaps she did in Scotland - ScotlandsPeople website may be of interest (it costs though): http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ Cheers AMBLY
