Hi Pauline On 1861 Christiana HUCKS (Mother in Law) was living with or visiting her daughter Sarah EVANS. The place of birth for Christiana was put as Dulthome ? Somerset 1815. Sarah was aged 28 in 1861, (mistranscribed as 20) born in Bermondsey. Joan |

Sue, that could be her, then again, possibly not with 'Evans' as her surname!! lol Pauline, that looks promising. Do you know if Battersea comes under Bermondsey in the District? That's whats on the 1861 census as her place of birth. Thanks. Joan |

Sue, It looks like a 'D' or 'S' on the 1881. In fact i'd go with 'S' as it is the same as the S in 'Salesman' !! None of the others had midlle names though. I expect she married by 1891. Thanks Joan |

No, he's a London Evans!! He was born 1830, St Pancras according to the previous censuses. I can't find him on Ancestry after 1881, he had probably died after 1881? His wife was Sarah HUCKS (I assume because m-i-l appears on 1861 census with them.) I would love to find Sarah's birth but she was born in 1833 so I assume I would need to look in Parish records for Bermondsey? Thanks, Joan |

I have William Evans (sorry!) on 1861 census, with wife Sarah ref RG9/192 folio 16 page 25. I can't read his occupation - cow keeper? The same family in 1871, RG10/257 folio 51 page 29, can't read Williams occupation AGAIN!! I found them in 1881, William was a widower & a salesman. I can't find him after that, or his daughters. Any help appreciated. Joan |
