There is this birth in Sussex:- Name: GASSON, John Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1867 District: Cuckfield County: Sussex West Sussex Volume: 2b Page: 139 If this happens to be him, then he is the seventh of nine children on the 1871 census. Kath. x

Thanks so much for your help - I REALLY appreciate it. I thought it was strange that she never mentioned a twin. I can knock Rose off my family tree!!! Gasson is a Sussex name and I seem to be drawing a blank as my great grandfather I think his name was John Gasson - was a 'bit of a one' and was a royal naval seaman - he was in the coastgaurd service in Pembrokeshire where he met my great grandmother - sired 3 children & then seems to have disappeared. Any Ideas how I find out about his naval service & coastguard service. I'm relatively new to all of this as you have probably gathererd!!! Thanks again Shân

It has been transcribed wrongly. I have submitted an error report on FreeBMD.

As Tracy says, I think the Ancestry transcriber has made a mistake. Kath. x

Shan, the Ancestry register is wrong. I had a look at the image. Rose Mary was registered in Battle, not Haverfordwest. You can see it for yourself on FreeBMD, if you click on the Glasses at the side of her name.

I use 1837online which is complete, whereas Ancestry is not. In the March qtr. of 1899 when your grandmother was registered, there is no Rose Mary Gasson registered in Haverfordwest. Only the one registered in Battle, which is a different area altogether. To be certain, if you know your grandmother's parent's names, you could order the certificate for Rose Mary, and give your grandmother's parent's names as checking points. That way you would know if they were from the same family. Kath. x

In Ancestry.com using the civil registration index they are registered one after the other - in Haverfordwest in March 1899 - I Know this is my grandmother as her birthday was in January. also there was only one Gasson family in the area - It is not a local name.

I have checked the births on 1837online. I don't think your grandmother was a twin. Florence Mary was registered in Haverfordwest Rose Mary was registered in Battle They would appear to be from two separate families. Kath. x

I've just fornd out that my grandmother was a twin, she was Florance Mary Gasson, born Haverfordwest Jan 1899 and her twin was registered at the same time ( Rose Mary) However, I knew my grandmother & she never mentiuoned that she was a twin - but I can find no record of Rose Mary's death. I presume she died in infancy - or maybe she was 'given away' - any ideas?
