Hi - It is probably a Carter's Carman - the following information may help. Carman/Charman/Carrier/Carter/Cartman - Driver of (horse-drawn) vehicles for transporting goods. Carmen were often employed by railway companies for local deliveries and collections of goods and parcels. Modern day van driver. Also sometimes someone who drove horse-drawn trams was called a Carman. Dea x |

I Have just found some relatives on the 1901 census and two of them are listed as being Carters Carm as their Occupations, does anyone have any idea what this is? They both lived in Stoke on Trent In Staffordshire and it used to be a large mining area, so I thought maybe something to do with mining, any ideas would be appreciated. Thankyou Marie |
