Thanks everyone for your help, it's certainly given me some new leads. The surname KIK, I'm guessing it could be something like: Kile, Kilt, Kit, Kite? We'll see!! Andy

It looks like that FreeBMD one was the same marriage - her name is obviously VERY difficult to read! Christine

I always feel worried when people make a decision about a marriage cert without having got the birth cert of a child of the couple....... Not saying this is the wrong marriage, but in one of my cases James Gray married Sarah in the local parish church, but MY James Gray (distant cousin to the other one) married his Sarah in London around the same time.........If I hadn't had one of the children's birth certs, I would have gone off on the wrong line!! They all have the same reference, so I suspect that the transcribers have had trouble reading the maiden name. This also happens if the bride has been married before, so both her maiden and married name are listed. The only problem is that, although Lancs has the imagination to have a BMD site online, they have a dreadful reputation for slow delivery of certificates (unlike most other local ROs, who either deliver very promptly or refuse outright). There is another route... If you can find out where there are copies of the parish registers for that church (?A2A), you could get a photo-copy of the register page. This is a] much cheaper b] more interesting - you see the original signature/X of the bride & groom c] no use if you need the info certified for some reason. Christine

Had a look on: http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and found these... Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1841 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference RUSHTON * William THIP Mary Ann St George, Chorley Chorley C7/1/141 RUSHTON * William HIP Mary Ann St George, Chorley Chorley C7/1/141 RUSHTON * William KITE May Ann St George, Chorley Chorley C7/1/141 Most Liverpool & West Derby church marriage records have been transcribed, so there's not a lot of room left for a marriage to a Mary Ann in those places... but it's not impossible. Can anybody help me find the marriage details of these two please? William RUSHTON married Mary Ann ?? in about 1843. Place would have been Lancashire or Merseyside (poss West Derby or Liverpool) Also, David RUSHTON married Sarah Ann ?? in about 1882 in Leeds. Any info appreciated.... xxx
