Does anybody know if its possible to trace a relative born in Darjeeling whilst his father I assume served in the Army? And no i don't know which regiment only his full name. Any ideas? |

Have you tried the IGI? I found quite a lot of xtening entries for my relatives who were born in India in the 19th century on it. Otherwise all parish registers and other records for colonial India are kept at the British Library. Helen |

Thanks for that, Helen I have a (Mari)anne FOSTER b 1810 or 1821 - poss Calcutta in my tree. There's a bit of doubt in my mind as to whether (Mari)anne is actually two different people, one of whom (Ms FOSTER) was born in Calcutta. I'd really like to track her down if I can - that's something of a brick wall at the moment. I hadn't picked up on the British Library bit. Christine |

Thanks Helen, I've been blundering round a bit in the dark for a while so a little light is more than welcome. I know what you mean about it becoming compulsive though. Mark x |
