I did a bit of googling and found (http://www.angelfire.*com/de/BobSanders/Surrey81.html) that the 1881 entry is: Owen CRUMMERY M 24 M Washington, Durham, England Fireman so he wasn't so much a sailor as a stoker (or something like that) - presuming the term 'fireman' is used more like the way it's used for steam trains. The ship gets a mention on this page, too: http://www.markpalmer.fsnet.*co.uk/family-tree/sir-charles.htm (remove *) And the same info on http://www.jarrowonline.*com/jrecords.htm - but have a read of the header-paragraph of the Palmer site, first!
