HOW DO I FIND OUT THE NAME OF SOMEONE WHO IS NOW LIVING IN AN ANCESTORS HOUSE. I'D LIKE TO GIVE THEM A TRY INCASE THEY HAVE ANY INFO OF PREVIOUS OCCUPIERS.

I guess, at a push, you could just write to 'The occupier' with the address? Some old deeds are useless to solicitors and often now they hand them over to buyers. We had our old ones for a 17th century cottage we bought - sadly we left them with the buyer some years back, wish we had kept them. But they were very interesting and named the owner and his occupation and his children, etc. Good luck

Sorry about the delay. Anyway they lived in the house from about 1900-1950. My mum used to visit her grandparents there. I couldnt decide whether to go for 'the occupier' but would it look like I havent put much thought into it or if I went to the trouble of finding out the surname would it look a bit stalky. By the way incase they are on the site its Park Road in Gosport.

two weeks ago I was up in Scotland. I looked up my gtx2 grandparents on 1851 census. On the way home I called at the house they lived at. The people that now live there let me & my 2 brothers in to have a look round. Also looked around another gtx2 grandparents house. I feel very privelaged to have been inside the houses. Mind you I did tell them off as well for letting in strangers. Both Couples lovely people. Hilary. x
