Asst School Master-where to look for records?

I have an Edward KNott b1860 Holborn who is at his brothers address Census 1901 -can't make out address ( St Andrews Holborn London RG13/487 f44 p41)....profession is Asst Schoolmaster....How can I look for that info...I know little about England...am in Oz.. Any help/suggestions? Thanks |

I imagine any records would be with the school's archive. Without the name of the school, its a problem. I imagine London school records would be at the London Metropolitan Archives and you need to get someone to search in person. It's quite likely they aren't indexed either! Could you find him on another census which might give further info? nell |

I really don't want to put a damper on things, but there were a large number of very small schools around at that time (many private establishments with only a very few pupils). if he taught at a big school you might be in luck, but if not.....Aggghhhhhh!! To help you start I have searched on the National Archives site (where you can do an address search on their version of the 1901 census). I entered the word ''school'' and ''Wandsworth''. Obviously, he might have taught in another area of London though!!
