My husband has Thomas' in Llangynwyd, but I have to say that the village only seems able to support 4 surnames, so there may or may not be a connection!!!!!!!!! nell

Have you discounted this one: Name: Miller, George Record Type: Births Quarter: June Year: 1895 District: Cardiff (1837-1974) County: Glamorgan Monmouthshire Volume: 11a Page: 389 I know this should make him 8 instead of 6, but its possible the age was mistranscribed. I must say I feel more inclined to go with the cert you found and solve the mystery of the wrong mum! nell

Thank you for all your replies. The 1901 census is correct except for Thomas D, that is Thomas charles 6 months old ( my father) born Oct 1900 Roath. The father of the family George in the 1901 census is at his father-in-laws house St Margaret Str Tylorstown, with son William J age 9 YRS also born Cardiff ( was He visiting ) John (Gosport). Yes Helen it is Llangynwyd some census say born Maesteg. Her father is James Thomas mother Elizabeth, dau Mary Ann born c1873. Sorry Jim wrong father Mary ann Marriage cert father James Thomas, have no birth cert: of any of the children but mother's christian name is Elizabeth on census. The children all born Llangynwyd, Maesteg, Martha E born c 1865,William J c1868 Benjamin c1871 Mary Ann c1873 Thomas Charles Thomas c1877

Re: 1901 census entry, I see it has mum's place of birth as Llangynbyd. I can't find this on streetmap co uk and wondered if its meant to be Llangynwyd (where my husband's Welsh side come from). nell

What did you think mums name should be? If you have that you can see when she married dad and whether that was after George was born and his original mum had died? Just seen the above census for 1901 was dad dead by then or away?

Either he had a different mum from the one you thought, or just possibly he was born in a different registration district. He might also only have been registered as George Miller. nell

Are George and Mary Ann the parents on the wrong birth cert, or the parents of the boy you are looking for the birth reg of?? Merry

Have you found him on the 1901 census with the correct parents? What is his place of birth on there? Merry

Only that one on familyrelatives as well.

So you khow how old he was when he died? Is the 6 correct? So you can work out a rough birth year? If so you may be able to email or phone Cardiff office - I assume you know he was born there with all the details you know- and ask them to send you a copy?

I have hit a brick wall, searched BMD & Ancestry for George, born Cardiff, I know he died in 1903 age 6 yrs, have death cert: the only George Henry birth is June Q 1896 Cardiff 11a 441, ordered cert but wrong mother. Father George mother Mary Ann Thomas. Is my next step a trip to Cardiff Records. John
