Generally, pre 1837 marriages are not online. But try Familysearch, the LDS site, you might be lucky. But treat the results as suspect until verified with other sources. |

I have just tried Familysearch with no luck - how can I find any details? Will it be in my local record office? Christina |

County records - find your local one or the one concerned with your area of study, get yourself a CARN card, that registers you as an archive user .Once in these premises, you cant use pens, only pencils, and usually need to phone to book a microfilm reader in advance. Added to this is the online parish clerk system ,which is in its infancy, and relies on dedicated volunteers. |

Have you any idea where the marriage could have taken plave? How long before 1837 was it? Phillimore and Boyd both produced marriage indexes. Some local family history societies sell parish records in booklet or on film for a few pounds. If you have a good idea which area it is, I would try joinging one of the Rootsweb mailing lists and asking for a look-up. Somebody on the list might have the index you need. To be sure, you'll still need to go to the Records Office and see the original for yourself. Pre-1837 is where it get's fun....and expensive! |

The marriage almost certainly took place in Cumbria or Cumberland. They had their first child C1825 so marriage presumably took palce before then Husband : Benjamin Turner - no date of birth but died in 1844 Wife : Ann Armstrong born 1799 I am lucky as I have a records office and Family History office close to where I live so will try them How do I join a Rootsweb group?
