In any case you don't need to be an Ancestry subscriber to use their BMD's 1837-1983. Because this data was provided by FreeBMD, Ancestry have to make it freely available to all. Ancestry is useful for those 1984-2002 entries though, but for these you do need to be a subscriber. The alternative site for these is 1837online, which is pay per view.

Ancestry has stuff up to 1910 and then again from about 1984. nell

Think it will be a long slow trawl through the indexes on fiche at my local library. And there I was thinking Ancestry had everything! Thanks to everyone who replied. A great help and saved me mon ey Jane

Ancestry ONLY has the same deaths from 1837 to 1983 that FreeBMD does...in fact FreeBMD is more up-to-date! Joining Ancestry would be a waste of money in this case. You'll have to go through 1837online and pay per view.

Actually, I have found deaths later than that. My own mum is on there in 1987 and my father in law in 1984. The thing is to enter a name and ask for all entries rather than just deaths.

Jane Sorry Ancestry do not go that far, neither does Free BMD. I don't know if NBI does or not. If it doesn't then the only avenue left is 1837 online. Victor

Can anyone tell me what year do deaths go up to on the Ancestry site? Don't want to bother paying money if I can't see them. I need to search from about 1955-1970 Jane
