Hi, i have access to Ancestry.co.uk and have found some rellies on the 1891 census. Im having trouble in reading some of the writing and wondered if somebody else could check and see what they thought for me. 1891 Berrow, Worcestershire. Cant read the address..Yoldlay ? Goldlay ? Charles James 1845 Head Berrow Gen Ag Lab Mary M 1851 Wife Castle Morton Betsey Olmer? 1824 Mother/Wid Birtsmorton SOURCE : RG12/2333 FOLIO : 9 PAGE : 10 Its the address and the Mother's Surname that i would like looked at.....on the 1851 she was married, her married name being James, she was also this on the 1861 census although she was a Widow, did she remarry to Olmer/Olmen/Clover...i have tried looking for her on later census with these different surnames and could'nt find her. Further down the same page is Charle's brother : John James, 1859, Berrow married to Hannah...is there an address for these. Thank you and hope that the above made sense.... CAZ

If you look on the 1881 Betsey is living with John and Hannah and her name is OLIVER Their address then was Rye Cottage, Berrow netti

Hi Netti Thanks, i knew who she was living with, i just could'nt make out her surname, its been transcribed as OLMER, it did'nt look like that name to me whilst looking at the image, but then i could'nt make out what it said at all. Im not sure if she went back to her maiden name, or if she remarried after the death of her husband John James. I'll try and see if i can find her with OLIVER as her surname. CAZ

Caz I haven't looked at the image (I don't have access) so Oliver is just the transcription. Hope its the right one. Can't help with the address but do you know Berrow? It is a very spread out place - lots of farm cottages. netti ps Betsey's marriage is on freebmd in 1874!

Hi Netti I dont know Berrow at all, i have access to Ancestry and i have just found her on the 1881 census living with her other son and his wife : John James and Hannah. So on the 1851/61 & 71 Census her surname is JAMES On the 1881 census her surname is Oliver On the 1891 census her surname has been transcribed as OLMER. Still none the wiser as to what was her surname after JAMES and was the next surname she used her maiden name or did she remarry. Thank you Netti CAZ

Hi Caz I live about 10 miles from Berrow - a friend used to live there. Did you see betsey married William Oliver 1874. He didn't last long did he? died aged 46 in 1879. (all from freebmd) do you know when Mr James senior died? netti

Hi Netti Thanks for that, i did'nt see that on Freebmd, but im having problems with that site today, dont know wether its my computer or the site...but its running really slow. Thank you for that, so it looks like she remarried after the death of her 1st hubby John James. I dont know when John James b1821 from Pendock died, i know he was on the 1851 census with his family, so it was sometime after that, the last child i have with for John & Betsey James is John c1859. CAZ
