Even been trying to find out information on my Gran-father, but i've had no luck. His name is John Edmund Brier he was born in we think 1927 in Leeds but we have no idea about his mother's name. He had a younger brother and believe his fathers name was George Brier. I wondered if anyone has any advise on where to look next.

Hannah You should be able to find his birth on 1837 online and I think the mothers maiden name was listed by 1928. If you then send for this birth certificate it will also have his fathers name and then you can work back. Good Luck! Debby

I've got something that looks interesting but i can't tell if it says Brier or Brior. Why do they make it so hard? :)

I don't know about your BRIERs, but just browsing the YorkshireBMD site (http://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk) I put in BRIER without any initial from 1870-1925. I reckon the parents of these two (presumably twins) were chancing their arm over alliegiance issues!... Yorkshire Birth indexes for the years: 1873 Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference BRIER Maria Stuart Otley Leeds OTLE/28/187 BRIER Prince Charlie Otley Leeds OTLE/28/188 I promise I haven't made them up. Christine PS - YorkshireBMD isn't complete any more than FreeBMD - just different gaps.

I would guess that there's a big gap on YorkshireBMD between about 1922 and 1943. - I tried 1925-1951 and only got two more BRIERs - in 1943 & 1946 - while there were quite a number from 1837-1922. Christie
