I am trying to find my husbands grandfather, Edward Gray......on his son Reginals marriage cert in 1907 it says that Edward was a publican but was deceased. Is there any websites that have lists of publicans on them? Many thanks Susan |

Susan I have publicans on my and my husband's tree. I have found some sites which give landlords of individual pubs, but if you don't know which pub its a problem. Local records offices have licensing applications, but again you need to know whereabouts the publican was. Could you try getting Reg's birth cert to see if he was a publican then - the address would be a starting point. A tip: often on censuses, places are just listed as addresses, it isn't always clear that they are pubs! nell |

The problem is with Reginald........I can't find when he was born......what I know about him is that he had one family in Chelsea while his name was Gray.....left them and set up home with my husbands g/mother and changed his name to McCormick!!! I have just got in contact with a grandson from the Gray family and he told me the name of his grandmother so that is when I ordered the cert and found out Edwards name. Does that make sense??? We have heard stories that Reginald was born in Ireland and in Putney......but who knows? Thanks anyway Nell Susan |

Not really sure Alan......but I think it must be in London as that is where his son was living. |

Well if Reginald was born in Ireland (big if!) that might be where his father ran the pub. But if he was born in Putney and married in London it might be easier to trace. How old was Reginald when he married - can you use that info to find him on the 1901 census, hopefully his dad will be in the same area? nell |

Reginald was supposed to have been born in 1888 but I can't find him anywhere. His father, Edward had died before 1907 but not too sure when. I have got to go out now but will look on the 1901 census when I get back.......fingers crossed. Thank you so much for your help Nell. Susan |
