Hi Wendy If you are talking about your first cousin then their children are your first cousins once removed. You and your cousin are the same generation but any children you have are one generation removed from you or your cousin. Your own offspring and those of a first cousin are second cousins to each other. The removed part comes in when you have common ancestors but they are say grandparents to you and great grandparents to someone else in your family. Once removed indicates that you are one generation apart from a relative, twice removed means 2 generations apart, etc. I have a first cousin once removed. She is my mother's first cousin. My children are her first cousins twice removed. I hope this helps and I haven't confused matters.

Hi Wendy Removed means a different generation so your cousin's children are your 1st cousins once removed. If you have children, your children and your cousin's children would be second cousins. Heather

Im confused about cousins. What relationship am i to my cousins children? what about my children and hers? Ive been intouch with someone who is my sixth cousin once removed! How does that come about?
