Yes there were certainly rippers in the coal industry. I don't know if they existed in pre-mechanised days.

A ''rip'' is a wicker basket in which to carry fish, so a ripper carried the basket and sold the fish. I'm glad we could chat, too! Merry

I have a 'Ripper' as an occupation on the 1881 census I know he wasn't 'Jack The' so what was his job? Thanks Louise : )
