I use Paf5 and I love it, its nice and simple for me. I do have Family Tree Maker, when I have time I will try it. June xx

Jules No, Ancestry doesn't have an online tree-building facility such as this site does, so you could either keep your tree on here, or use a software program installed on your PC. You can download a free program called PAF from the familysearch.org site, or there are several commercially available options (I use Family Tree Maker for Windows, and find that it's excellent). Which ever way you go, you can import/export your tree from one to the other via Gedcom files. Richard

If it's England & Wales census that you want, then definitely Ancestry. They have complete coverage for all censuses 1861-1901, with the 1851 & 1841 promised soon. Censuses are name-indexed and there are links to images of the original pages. Richard

Given that one cannot afford to subscribe to all the sites available offering census information on line, can anyone recommend best value for money and info just one site? Sorry should add this is for the UK
