I have a James Lamb that married twice, first marriage was 1884 to a Emma Obrien, see below. I then find him at home with parents as a Widower in 1891. He then remarries just after 1891 census, I have the cert and one of the witnessess to second marriage is a John Obrien. How likely could it be that John Obrien the witness on second marriage was related to the Emily Obrien whom was his first wife???? James marriage ref for first wife: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Jun 1884 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOUGH Margaret Chorlton 8c 1036 LAMB James Chorlton 8c 1036 >>>>O'Brien Emily Chorlton 8c 1036 Threlfall Thomas James Chorlton 8c 1036 John O'Brien is a witness on his marriage cert to 2nd wife Elizabeth Brennen in 1891! Or could that just be a coincidence??? ****************************** 1891, second marriage: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Jun 1891 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Brennen Elizabeth Chorlton 8c 1104 Critchley Elizabeth Chorlton 8c 1104 Lamb James Chorlton 8c 1104 Roberts John Thomas Chorlton 8c 1104 Lib |

Lib, Of course, it COULD just be a coincidence but I have followed many such 'hunches' in the past and have found a connection - I think it is quite likely that they are related and would certainly follow the O'Briens back to see i I could find the link. Dea |

I agree with Dee,John could have been emilys brother. The two men could have been realy good friends so it wouldn't be strange to have him as whitness to next marraige. angie |

Theres certainly an Irish thing going on here-both wives have irish names, and in those days the Irish community would have been very tight,as it is today in some areas. He could be a cousin,a brother, uncle, etc to his first wife, and the family of his second marriage might well have known the O'Briens anyway. |

Probably is a link - the most likely problem to surface is which of Emma's relations John O'Brien is!! Coz she has a brother, three first cousins, and a dad all called John O'Brien!!! Good Luck! Merry |

Hi all Thanks for the input, yes I had a feeling they were connected somehow. Alter I was aware O'Brien was a Irish name, did'nt realise Brennen was too, that probobally explains why I have'nt had much luck in finding her father Peter Brennen on pre 1891 census's! Merry You are a few step's ahead of me, Ive not looked for Emily's family yet, by the sound's of it, it's not going to be easy confirming who John OBrien was in relation to Emily! Thank's again:)) Lib |

i was looking for a relative and he also had been married twice. his second wife's maiden name was the same as his surname and all the witnesses had the same surname as the bride and groom so it was hard to find out who was related to who. what a nightmare. good luck love linda x |
