Do you mean Collegiate? Looks like a grammar school. Used to be all boys, but now allow girls. There's some in London, and one in Berkhampstead.

looked this up (askoxford*com) myself recently after passing Tattershall Collegiate (Lincs) and being bugged by the meaning of the word. ----------------------- collegiate /kleejt/ • adjective 1 relating to a college or college students. 2 (of a university) composed of different colleges. ----------------------- collegiate church • noun a church endowed for a chapter of canons but without a bishop’s see.

My children's first school used to be a collegiate school. It was a church of England school which was attached to a church of England teacher training college. The student teachers were allowed to practice on the pupils. My mum who was a teacher trained at the college and could remember hhaving to go to the school if they needed help. That was nearly seventy years ago.

Thanks everyone. A friend of mine, in the course of her work deals with the effects of a deceased person, amongst the recent 'job' she has found school reports etc from 1914 onwards. There is no next of kin and everything will get thrown, she thought it all might be of interest to the school if it still exsisted. As i dabble on the net she asked if i could find a school by that name in Bournmouth , i soon realised it wasnt the actual name of a school but couldnt work out exactly what they are/were Now i have let her know it is a type of school as opposed to the name she is going to have another look tomorrow at the paperwork. maureen
