It looks like ??lington to me and the ref is III 220 (ie district 3 (in roman numerals) page 220 Searching Freebmd for vol 3 page 220 Dec 1850 got these results: Marriages Dec 1850 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bassett John Islington 3 220 Ninham Harriet Islington 3 220 So looks like Sarah also married in Islington but hasn't been transcribed by Freebmd yet. |

Thanks I am looking for a marriage with a lady of that name, Sarah Ann Tinkler and William Smith. Like you, i thought it said Islington, looked up William and found him as well with the ref Islington !!! 220,, so sent off for the cert, i left the females name off as on the census sometimes she is Sarah Ann and other times Ann and got a cert back for William Smith and Penelope Forrester. I am befuddled!! Maureen |

Maureen - I think I have found your william Smith on Ancestry and they give the volume as 3 but the page as 228 not 220. The register entry on 1837 is not at all clear in the case of William Smith or Sarah Ann Tinkler, but the last number in each case could!! be 8 not 0. The place in both cases appears to be Islington. |

Thanks Linda I will have a go at that, whats another 7.00!! These Smith's are driving me nuts without the handicap of not being able to read the entries on 1837. maureen |
