Hi! Does anybody know if the Civil Service or the Royal Household have personnel records available for research? My grandfather worked for the Ministry of Transport from the end of WW1 to 1950, after serving in the navy during the War. One of his aunts was a lady's maid to one of Queen Victoria's grandchildren from approx 1905 to 1950. I'd love to find out more about both of them. I would also like to know if Haberdashers Askes School in Elstree has any records going back to the early 20th century (tried ringing the school, but nearly everybody's on holiday....drat!) and where they are likely to be located. Did the navy keep records of who served in WW1? Any help with any of the above would be appreciated! Many thanks! Sue PS. I'm logging off for a while now, but I'll come back later and see if there any replies, so apologies if I don't respond immediately. |

Hello my Great Grandfather was apparently gamekeeper for Sandringham and I wrote to them directly, and although they didnt have a record for him, they told me to write to Windsor Castle, who hold a complete record of all employees of the royal family. I havent wrote yet, so cant tell you how I got on. Regards Sue |

Susan having worked for various government departments, they all hold their own personnel records, so I'd try the appropriate personnel department first. Regards Trudy |
