And apologies to anyone she didn't have time to help yesterday at the Norfolk Record Office yesterday - it was all my fault.

As I am quite incapable of working a mobile phone and the Uni computer was only available during office hours, I missed Heather’s messages, warning me that the Norfolk Record Office was only open from 9 to 12 on Saturdays. Despite a raging toothache (I’d have wimped out and sought a darkened room with enough painkillers to stun me) she and George took me to the NRO yesterday, enabling to me to order masses of photocopies from registers previously unmicrofilmed and/or undeposited. It is a good five years since I managed to get to the Norfolk Record Office, then in poky offices in Anglia Square, and it will probably be as long before I am able to go back again, so a huge THANK YOU to Heather and George. Apologies to everyone who Heather said she would help and was unable to because her time was taken up by my wittering. And finally, the tip! If you can, by any means, get to the Norfolk Record Office, please do so. The staff are lovely, not the dragons I remember from the 1980s. They are microfilming as much as they possibly can, so that research that used to take days can be accomplished in hours, the surroundings are so civilised, compared with what they used to be. It is a wonderful place! PS The best bit of the day was getting to meet Ralph, who is twice as gorgeous as all the photos suggest and the happiest puppy alive, with a tail that never stops wagging.

Brenda Hope your toothache is now better. Heather was able to do my look-up - I jumped on her as soon as I saw her thread so was first in the queue! I am hoping to get to the NRO at some point as I have lots of relatives to check out, but I have had unfailing help from them by e-mail and maybe because they felt sorry for me they kindly waived all fees I should have paid, so I will have to make a donation when I get there. nell
