Well done Margaret But 1861 is like every other census, riddled with errors! I am quite surprised when I find an entry that's correct! nell

I have a subscription to Ancestry and if I ever find an error on it, I report the error to Ancestry. They have a very clever facility that shows how it was transcribed and how it should be. I report as many errors as I can in order to help others and so I can find the person again if I need to! I suggest others do the same if they have an Ancestry subscription. Cheers, Lynn

I found someone this morning who was supposed to be 72; she had become 7m and a 'dau' instead of mother-in-law. This was on the image, so the transcription error was over 140 years ago.

Oh, thanks for that info Lynn, I shall now spend the next three weeks emailing Ancestry with corrections of their mistranscribed versions of the name Hall. You simply cannot imagine how many there are! Tina

Hi Tina, Glad you found the Ancestry information useful. You can find the correction template in the bit where you can also click to see others on the page. At the moment they are only accepting name errors or missing pages errors; but they might start doing other types of errors eventually. Cheers, Lynn
