Sorry Nell, i got Marys info off the scottish census 1871- 81 they both say she was born in Norfolk, Why Liverpool? i just thought it would be easier to drop your bundle on the nearest port than travel across the country after a journey on the coffin ships, they seem determined to get somewhere. although i can find no trace of Mary in 1837online only loads born in Liverpool

I'm confused. If you haven't found a birth why do you think Mary Nolan was born in Norfolk? Why are you thinking Liverpool would be right? Where does it say she was born on the census? nell

Thanks jess, James is missing off the scottish census in 1871 so i surmise that he was away in the armed forces so that could be why he headed to norfolk, i will google it and see... MOE!

thanks Francis, the lead is MARY NOLAN born around 1856 in NORFOLK, her family were irish James and Ellen Nolan and brother John i believe they came to England in 1855-56 as john is a year older than mary and born over there, i have them in scotland on 1871 81 91 census's.I have a couple of mary nolans born in liverpool Apr/may/jun 1856, but i can't make out the numbers its to faint.I think liverpool would make more sense if they came from Ireland and cannot find any link to Norfolk at all,What would the attraction be? mines, railroads?on the 1881 census i hve dad james as a pensioned sargeant would that be armed forces?is there an army base in the area? am i going on to much? this has stumped me hope someone can help..Thanks again MOE!
